Scouting can make all the difference in the success of your turkey season.
This interaction occurred at 7 a.m. on April 2 in southeast Missouri while I was out trying to locate some birds for the youth season.
Normally, I wouldn’t mess with a bird this bad and risk educating him. But, one this isn’t a spot I’d likely hunt with kids, and two, he was so fired up that he fired me up and I had to play with him a bit.
I’m just sitting on the ground in blue jeans and a sweatshirt with just a box call. Please excuse the horrible calling. I was filming on my phone with my right hand and trying to work the lid of the call with my left hand while it was sitting on the ground. As bad as it was, the calling worked. I was the audio would have picked up the spitting and drumming.
In a couple of weeks, I’m going to try to find this bird again.
